In addition to the family and portraiture I also undertake the odd wedding or two.

This blog post is to showcase a few images from a wedding that I shot in April 2016.

I have known Gemma and her family for the majority of my life and when she decided to get married Gemma and Danny had asked whether I would be prepared to shoot the event for them, I was honoured to.

So having competed a successful pre-wedding shoot to break the photographic ice we were ready to shoot the big day. Gem sent me a meticulous spreadsheet detailing exactly what she wanted from me.

The day arrived, 29 April, Spring time, so naturally seeing snowfall on the morning of your wedding was somewhat of a shock to everyone. We soon got over it and took it as being a special sign for her special day.

I love the bridal prep stage, full of nerves, excitement and fun of the wedding day. So many natural, happy photographic opportunities to capture.

Here are some of the detail shots, all add to telling the story of the special day.

After champagne, laughter and a bit of hair and make up artistry the bride is ready. For me the black and white image perfectly captures Gemma, such fun to be around.

Time to meet the parents…

An official picture with the parents and then off to church we go…

Time for the ceremony, I was asked not to photograph the ceremony so we were limited as to movement and noise but I also shoot with a smaller mirrorless range of cameras which made some shots possible.

The new Mr & Mrs then lead the way exiting church before heading back to Woodlands for the reception.

Since my parents were at the wedding I thought I would share a picture of the mother of the bride and my mother, friends for longer than I have been alive.

The room was gorgeous, the cake was amazing and the wedding singer provided great entertainment. Gem made CD’s for all the guests with songs on that remind her and Danny of the good times they have shared together with a fact sheet where you had to answer various questions on how you know them and note special memories.

Time for the speeches, they didn’t disappoint!

Drinks flowed into the evening and then it was time for the first dance and some partying! Gem is an avid Take That fan, in particular Gary Barlow - unfortunately he didn’t make the wedding but he made the playlist on more than one occasion!

We also had a photobooth going into the evening to capture some of the guests having some fun.

All in all it was a great day, very late finish but worth it to see lovely people get married and to document the best day of their lives.
